Reflect

od created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (Gen. 1:27) Read that again carefully – we were created just like Jesus. The enemy wants us to tear ourselves down so he can sneak in and destroy our confidence.   God does not want us to be obsessed with our appearance. God wants us to hide the Word, His truth, in our heart and share with others. Here’s how we can pay attention to fostering inner beauty…

• Do you ever walk past a mirror, stop and make a comment on how you look?   “I don’t like my hair.”, “I can’t stand my outfit. It is so outdated”, “Look how gross I look”, etc. I caught myself making a negative comment about myself and my three year old grandson said, “But why Pearl”. That struck a chord in my heart and made me think twice about where I was placing value! Image is everything today in this culture we live in…outside of what Christ says about who we are and what is important.  Embrace yourself and encourage others.
• Do you ever ask God why me?  This past year I have had several health problems.  I did get to a point of wondering if this tough season was ever going to end!  God reminded me as He always does that this is exactly how He has made me, and it is all in His plan.  I will have this illness for the rest of my life, and I’m ok with that.  Don’t get me wrong I do get tired of all the doctor appointments and procedures. 
• How is your self-esteem?  As adults we struggle with this every day.  If we struggle, just think how our children deal with this away from our protection.  I’m a firm believer in praying a hedge of protection around my family, as they encounter the enemy daily.  Pray for discernment.  Build up confidence in your spouse, children, family, and friends by letting them know you’re praying for them and speak truth into their lives.

At the end of the day I’m reminded…We were individually made by God himself.  Wow!!!  I have been around several different types of people with varying illnesses and situations they’re dealing with.  Depending on God through my own tough situations has given me the opportunity to pray for and encourage others. Let’s do this for our children as well.
