What is the Importance of Enjoying Nature?

Campers sitting

Hey Camp Family! Madi Tipton, Base Camp Women’s Director, reminds us of so many benefits of enjoying God’s creation out in nature.

Scripture

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[a] in the things that have been made.

Romans 1:19-20

Earlier this fall I got to experience God’s majesty through His creation in the Zion National Park…several aspects of seeing things that were so much larger than me reminded me of God’s bigness and sovereignty over every aspect of my life! There are SO many benefits to us being in nature…and SO many things for us to enjoy in nature!

In Romans 1:19-20 Paul says “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” Creation reveals the Lord. Paul says that in creation we see God’s invisible qualities and divine nature.

When we spend time in nature, we get to spend time reflecting on who God is. God is mighty, perfect and a wonderful Creator. He created the most vast and beautiful things. Some of my favorite times with the Lord are when I am immersed in nature. Whether that be at a National Park or a bike ride around town, being surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of God’s creation slows me down to learn more about His character. Being in nature screams of God’s magnificence.

It is so valuable to set aside time to be outside, so this week lets you and I commit to enjoying and resting in God’s creation and presence.

Reflect

  1. What aspect of nature do you personally see God in the most?
  2. In what ways can you enjoy God within nature as a family this week?
  3. How can you build in time in your weekly schedule to unplug and enjoy nature?
