Two Things Last

Campers reading the bible

As school cranks up so does the pressure to prioritize grades, social status, jobs, etc. Cole reminds us what remains most important in life no matter the season.

Scripture

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.

1 Peter 1:23-25

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Matthew 24:35

Reflect

Only two things in this world will last forever…people’s souls and God’s Word.  Have you ever wondered why camp is a place we long to be?  We say camp is all about relationships…because they are the heartbeat of loving God and loving others.  How can we have this same mentality at home?  Let’s take a look at the nuts and bolts of investing in people’s souls and God’s Word day in and day out.

  1. God tells us in his word that we are to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Heb. 10:24) and that “iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Pr. 27:17).  We are not called to do this life alone but God allows us to live life together to encourage and uphold one another.  Invest your life in others…these investments will last.
  2. In the last two verses Peter writing tells us that “the word of the Lord endures forever”.  We can count on God’s Word lasting forever. It is the most useful tool in all the world for growing us in our relationship both with God and each other.  The “Playbook for Life” is right at our fingertips…have you taken advantage of it today?  Our physical bodies will fail us, but the Word of the Lord stands forever.  We need to study the Bible for direction and guidance.  We are even called to “hide God’s word in our hearts” (Ps. 119:11) so we will know what is right.

With all the distractions and temptations of the world we have intentionally invest in what will last.  Know God’s Word…study it, memorize it, apply it to your life today.  Love on people…encourage someone, help someone, take time to truly “know” someone today.

Camper Corner

I know it seems like this life may last forever…I mean just making it until Christmas seems so far away!  But in the big scheme of eternity this life is just a blink of the eye.  Today, how can you be intentional to be about the two things that will last forever?
