\u201cNow, would you want someone to do that to you?!\u201d Surely there\u2019s not a person alive who hasn\u2019t heard this phrase from a parent or teacher? It\u2019s The Golden Rule. Jess shares some \u201chow to\u201d and most importantly the \u201cwhy\u201d we should follow it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So\u00a0whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is\u00a0the Law and the Prophets. Enter by the narrow gate. I grew up calling it \u201cThe Golden Rule.\u201d Mom would have us recite, \u201cDo unto others as you would have them do unto you.\u201d In most cases she was, of course, speaking toward my older sister who had surely slugged me for doing nothing at all wrong (right).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This phrase applied to all those times we didn\u2019t want to be nice and even had \u201cgood reason\u201d to be unkind to our siblings or peers. The Golden Rule became a way of life. Because mom said so, we did it. In adulthood, I\u2019ve come to better understand why it\u2019s important we understand and follow Matthew 7:12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about your kids? How can you guide and train your family to follow God\u2019s word and, \u201cdo unto others as you would have them do unto you\u201d\u2026even when it\u2019s hard? There are a few particular points convicting and shaping me in relation to loving people who are sometimes difficult to love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
