What happens when the performance isn\u2019t positive? Alice points us to some truth\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scripture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We love because He first loved us.<\/em><\/p>\n<cite><em>1 John 4:19<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We won \u2026 yea!&nbsp; We lost \u2026 boo!&nbsp; That\u2019s been our household for the past fifteen years raising three daughters in the world of athletics. &nbsp;In the world\u2019s eye, each of them have succeeded on a pretty large platform.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But parenting through the highs and lows of competitive performance has been just that \u2026 a lot of highs and lows.&nbsp; So how do we keep the \u201cscoreboard\u201d of life from influencing the love we show our children?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s remember a few truths:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;As believers, we are a child of God.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>\u201cSee what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!&nbsp; And that is what we are.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;1 John 3:1a.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong><em>Who we<\/em>&nbsp;<em>are<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;is much more important than&nbsp;<em>what we<\/em>&nbsp;<em>do<\/em>.&nbsp; Our performance will always be up and down, but our&nbsp;<em>identity as children of God<\/em>&nbsp;is not based on our performance.&nbsp; God accepts us because He is a God of lavish love.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As believers, God\u2019s grace is sufficient.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>\u201cMy grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;2 Cor 12:9.&nbsp;&nbsp; The Daisy Theology of \u201cHe loves me, He loves me not\u201d has no wiggle room to sneak into God\u2019s perfect theology.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>God fully and totally accepts us, in Christ<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Eph+1%3A6&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eph 1:6<\/a>)<strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp; God sees us in a way that\u2019s beyond our performance.&nbsp; God\u2019s grace brings freedom to perform without fear of failure.&nbsp; And, ironically, when we see how He sees us, our performance improves, because we live in response to the grace and love that He\u2019s already shown.&nbsp; We draw near to Him, and that affects us for the good.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back to parenting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Teach them truth<\/strong>.&nbsp; They are a child of God regardless of what they do and how well they do it.&nbsp; They are loved by a God Who grants amazing grace regardless of how many times they fail or mess up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As parents, we wear the coach\u2019s hat, the referee jersey and the cheerleading uniform all at the same time.&nbsp; Some days are easier than others to keep the roles balanced, but sometimes we blow a whistle or call a timeout unnecessarily when the player is not performing.&nbsp; That\u2019s when we need to take a deep breath and&nbsp;<strong><em>be reminded whose team we play on<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we tap into God\u2019s perfect love, we have access to parent out of the same love which has no bearing on a game winning shot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Camper Corner<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We play for a team where the coach loved us before He saw us play!<\/strong>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+John+4%3A19&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1 John 4:19<\/a>)\u00a0 His love is not scored \u2026 there is no winning or losing based on our performance.\u00a0 His love has no time-outs \u2026 His grace is sufficient no matter how bad we \u201cplay\u201d.\u00a0 His love has no game-ending buzzer \u2026 His love is never ending!
