Another great re-run!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scripture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAnd you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.&nbsp; The second is this, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<cite><em>Mark 12:30-31<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How simple it would be if successful relationships only required giving that special someone a chocolate kiss then all was bliss! However the everyday ups and downs of dating can be super complex and tough to navigate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How are your kids being coached in this minefield?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below is some of the wisest advice I was given \u2013 just wish I had heard and heeded it sooner!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who<\/strong>\u00a0should be coaching them?\u00a0 YOU!\u00a0 Dad, take the lead hand in hand with mom \u2013 no one else cares and wants to protect your child more than you!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>When<\/strong>\u00a0to start telling them?\u00a0 YESTERDAY!\u00a0 Way before other kids, movies or their emotions start kicking in, kindergarten is not too early (seriously)!\u00a0 You want to be the one shaping their mind rather than trying to steer, stop or reverse a revving engine headed down the track with no moral guardrails or brakes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What<\/strong>\u00a0to say about dating?\u00a0 \u201cWARNING, BEWARE, ROUGH RAPIDS AHEAD, TURN AROUND NOW!\u201d\u00a0 Take your pick.\u00a0 Though I\u2019d also suggest the following which have been foundational for our family.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bible doesn\u2019t mention the word dating which in my mind (and in my youthful experience) is a very culturally self-seeking concept (what do I get out of it: pleasure, popularity, self-esteem, etc.).\u00a0 Instead of viewing dating as a hobby to dabble with or a sport to conquer in, let\u2019s raise our kids with a \u201ccourtship\u201d mentality which looks towards determining who God has for me to marry (biblical marriage being a continual act of laying down your life for the other).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secondly, ensure your kids that when they\u2019ve reached the right maturity (rather than age based), you will help them to not merely make an emotional decision or one based on infatuation, but also one that considers them being \u201cequally yoked\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+Cor.+6%3A14&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2 Cor. 6:14<\/a>) as well as other factors a parent can help perceive to be important in who they date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lastly, teach them that \u201cWhether we eat or drink, or whatever we do, do it all to the glory of God\u201d.\u00a0 So whoever we are spending time with, friends, teachers, siblings or that special someone, we should love God first and foremost and then love others second which always means putting others\u2019 needs ahead of our wants!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Camper Corner<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you\u2019ve ever \u201cdated\u201d someone or just thought about it, what are some honest reasons that have made you interested in doing so?\u00a0 How do you think those line up with how God tells us to live our life according to the greatest commandment (verse at the top)?\u00a0 If you really think God and your parents want what\u2019s best for you, ask them for advice on \u201cdating\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dating\u2026fun or challenging?
