{"id":1176,"date":"2016-07-03T20:58:30","date_gmt":"2016-07-03T20:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gator3012.temp.domains\/~wearebul\/?p=1176"},"modified":"2023-07-03T20:58:41","modified_gmt":"2023-07-03T20:58:41","slug":"whats-the-big-deal-about-lust-temptation-and-purity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gator3012.temp.domains\/~wearebul\/2016\/07\/03\/whats-the-big-deal-about-lust-temptation-and-purity\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s the Big Deal about Lust, Temptation, and Purity?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why are conversations about temptation and purity so important to our faith, and how can we start them?\/<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scripture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\"<em>[God brought us to] adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<cite><em>Ephesians 1:5\u00a0<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Discussions on family resemblance have a special place in a parent or grandparent\u2019s heart\u2026\u201dHe looks just like his father.\u201d\u2026 \u201cShe has eyes the same color as her Gram.\u201d This is to be expected and enjoyed in our families. How much more amazing that the same is true spiritually. Our loving Heavenly Father wants us to increasingly have a family resemblance to Jesus in the area of purity \u2013 for God\u2019s glory and our good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are at least three reasons for this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God cares about our purity and so should we. 1 Peter 1:15-16 But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/1360.htm\">for<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/1125.htm\">it is written:<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/1510.htm\">\u201cBe<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/40.htm\">holy,<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/3754.htm\">because<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/1473.htm\">I<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/1510.htm\">am<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/40.htm\">holy.\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;One area of God\u2019s family resemblance is in the area of purity or holiness. Remember being holy means \u201cset apart\u201d, not perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Purity in our speech and conduct point out to a watching world we belong to God. 1 Tim. 4:12 \u201cLet no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself and example of those who believe.\u201d When our life is becoming healthier through growing purity, others notice our family resemblance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the natural world, purity can be super important. Think of small amounts of lead in the water of Flint, MI producing terrible physical deformities. In like manner, how we resist various temptations can be a matter of the quality of your spiritual life and yielding to temptation can lead to terrible spiritual deformities (James 1:15).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical Helps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Begin with a question connecting this idea to God\u2019s protective purposes in desiring His children to be pure and resist temptation. Questions like: Why would a loving parent set limits on their children? Why would a 2 year old child not want to hold parent\u2019s hands in a busy parking lot? The goal is to teach our kids that a loving parent sets appropriate boundaries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teach complex spiritual issues (purity) through simple to understand examples. One illustration could be that of storing clean food in a dirty container left in the trashcan for a week.
