Sexuality. Pornography\u2026all words that are uncomfortable to read much less talk about with our kids. The need is great however. Jacob directs us through some nitty gritty in these areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scripture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Flee sexual immorality.\u00a0 Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the one who practices immorality sins against his own body.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<cite><em>1 Corinthians 6:18<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether it\u2019s a 30 second commercial with a bikini clad model selling used tires (because that makes sense!?!), an image on a computer screen only a couple clicks away, or a brief scene in a movie, everywhere we turn we are confronted with sexuality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our children are growing up in a culture where research shows&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.focusonthefamily.com\/parenting\/sexuality\/when-children-use-pornography\/when-children-view-pornography#fn2\">a child\u2019s first exposure to pornographic material is 8 years old<\/a>!&nbsp; Add in a good dose of hormone overload in the teen years, and we\u2019re bound to have a ticking time bomb on our hands.&nbsp; Is it any wonder our children are confused about the purpose and goodness of sex and sexuality when they are receiving so many mixed messages nearly everywhere they turn?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s look at some simple ways to help kids deal with the sexualized culture we live in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Talk about sexuality<\/strong>\u2026regularly \u2013 The key is to do this more than once and start early!!!&nbsp; Here\u2019s the reality\u2026 kids are learning about sex from someone or something so they might as well hear their parent\u2019s thoughts on the matter too.&nbsp; In these conversations, point them to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs+29%3A25%2C+Ephesians+5%3A15-16%2C+Genesis+2%3A24-25%2C+Song+of+Solomon+8%3A4%2C+2+Timothy+2%3A22%2C+1+Thessalonians+4%3A3%2C+1+Corinthians+6%3A18-20%2C+1+Corinthians+10%3A23-24&amp;version=NIV\">Scripture<\/a>.&nbsp; Make clear that God has a specific design for sex\u2026it is a good thing He has waiting for us all within the covenant relationship of marriage!&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Model behavior<\/strong>\u2026with explanation \u2013 When it comes to fleeing sexual immorality, model what that looks like for your children and communicate to them why you\u2019ve made decisions like not watching your favorite TV series any more, choosing a different movie to see, moving all computers in the house to common areas in your home, etc.&nbsp; Spend some time in Scripture looking at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+39%3A6-12&amp;version=NIV\">Joshua\u2019s example<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;of fleeing sexual immorality.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Approach them authentically<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Your kids need to know that you are human and live in the same culture they do!&nbsp; Let your kids know you made mistakes growing up. One of the things I wish my dad had done more of was reveal to me the ways he failed growing up.&nbsp; I wanted to know his faults because I wanted to be able to relate to him, not so that I\u2019d have an excuse to do the same.&nbsp; When your kids fail, (and they will) don\u2019t brush it off.&nbsp; Approach them with genuine love, concern, and grace.&nbsp; Be a listening ear and point them to Jesus. There is grace, redemption, and healing even when there is sexual sin, including pornography.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God designed sex to be enjoyed and it is a good thing!&nbsp; Let\u2019s be parents who do the difficult work of giving our voice and behavior a chance to shape our children\u2019s thinking about sex to be biblical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Camper Corner<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where do you hear\/learn about sex most frequently?\u00a0 Do you think sex is a good thing or a bad thing?\u00a0 Why do you think God created sex?\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sex.
